A National University of Singapore sociologist critiqued current efforts to promote marriage and parenthood at an event organised by the opposition Workers’ Party.
Dr Daniel Goh said not enough is being done to understand the state of families here and their quality of life. He said that instead of reporting the family in terms of marriage and birth rate, “what we really want to know is the state of the family in society and whether it is supported financially, emotionally and has social linkages with society”.
