THE government’s first concern in crafting the budget due next month is to ensure it pushes the economy forward and prepares Singapore for the next stage of its development.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Monday in Cebu, Philippines, this was why the government was pushing ahead with two big changes – a hike in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the Workfare bonus, an income support scheme for low-wage workers.
