FIVE smokers were fined S$200 (RM463) each after rejecting requests from National Environment Agency (NEA) officials to put out their cigarettes in newly-gazetted non-smoking zones.
According to an NEA statement, though, these were isolated incidents in an otherwise mostly smooth start for the new set of anti-smoking rules that took effect on July 1.
