Cop toyed with gun before fatal shooting

POLICE national serviceman R. Arvin was fascinated with his Taurus service revolver and shot himself in various poses with his camera phone.

The 20-year-old pointed the revolver at his temple in one digital photograph.

Special Constabulary Corporal Arvin took the pictures on May 7 this year.

Two months later, on July 2, he shot himself in the head after a botched attempt to play Russian roulette with the revolver, and died.

At his inquest yesterday, State Coroner Tan Boon Heng returned a verdict of misadventure. Cpl Arvin had an “unusual dangerous tendency to play with his revolver,” he said.

The pictures were recovered from his cellphone at home after his colleagues found his body lying on the fourth floor of the Yishun North Neighbourhood Police Centre where he worked. –The Straits Times/ Asia News Network
