WASHINGTON: Cambodia's opposition leader Sam Rainsy, on the run after losing his parliamentary privileges, said on Friday his country has become repressive like neighbouring Myanmar and sought punitive US sanctions to restore democratic rights.
Speaking after meeting US legislators and non-governmental groups in Washington, he urged President George W. Bush's administration to impose a travel ban on Cambodia's ruling elite and give only conditional approval to any extension of tariff privileges for Cambodia's key textile exports.
