JAKARTA: Indonesian authorities are aiming to have some schools in the devastated areas of Aceh open again within weeks despite at least 1,000 teachers killed in the tsunami disaster, officials said yesterday.
The director-general for the Education Ministrys elementary and secondary department, Indrajati Sidi, told journalists that of the more than 1,000 teachers confirmed killed, about half were in the capital of Banda Aceh.
