JAKARTA: Indonesia's most powerful political party, Golkar, elects a new leader this weekend in a vote that will either keep the party firmly in opposition or give President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono an easier ride in parliament.
The two strongest candidates for the job include the incumbent and favourite, Akbar Tandjung, and Vice-President Jusuf Kalla, who joined forces with Yudhoyono early this year despite loud protests from within the party.
