TAIPEI: Former Taiwan defence minister Chiang Chung-ling strongly denied President Chen Shui-bian's allegations that he had plotted a soft coup in collaboration with China to cripple the Taiwanese government.
In a press conference here yesterday, Chiang said Chen's charges were a sheer lie he had created to smear the image of the opposition parties in the run-up to December's parliamentary election.
