BEIJING: Cardiovascular disease is set to pose a major new threat to health and wealth in Asia, with smoking, increasing obesity and rising levels of cholesterol and blood pressure sparking an epidemic, a new medical report released yesterday showed.
Until recently, heart disease was uncommon in Asian populations, but results from the five-year study of over half a million people indicated that a large-scale epidemic is poised to hit the region.
