TOKYO: Japan's Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi sailed to a group of disputed islands yesterday, ignoring Russian warnings that his visit would hamper talks on a bilateral peace treaty.
Koizumi, wearing a white work jacket, stayed within Japanese waters as he “inspected” the Habomai islets using binoculars while a Russian vessel kept watch.
