SCIENTISTS here have found a way to use a particular virus to reach and deliver therapy to damaged brain cells in patients suffering from Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
Researchers at the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology are relying on the prowess of viruses to get into cells and deliver healthy genes in order to reverse the effects of these debilitating diseases. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
Biggest rise in CPI for all
THE Consumer Price Index (CPI) went up by 1.6% for all households between January and June, compared to the same period last year – the largest increase in three years.
Data released by the Department of Statistics on Friday showed that the poorest people were hit the hardest.
The CPI rose by 2.2% for the lowest 20% income group, compared to 0.3% for those at the other end of the spectrum, the top 20% income group.
Young Cabinet after next polls
THE current Cabinet is a transitional one and the full shape of the “third generation” leadership will only be clear after the next general election, Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong said on Friday evening. For now, “the experienced ministers will provide ballast while the newer ones, the entrepreneurial spirit”, he said.
