JERUSALEM: Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon vowed yesterday to press ahead with his Gaza pullout plan despite a humiliating rebuff from his own party of his bid to forge a coalition with the pro-withdrawal Labour Party.
Sharon's rebellious right-wing Likud handed him a resounding defeat on Wednesday when it voted to bar him from negotiating a unity government with the centre-left Labour opposition led by Shimon Peres, Israel's leading dove.
