BAGHDAD: Muslim clerics in Saddam Hussein's home province have asked US troops to print 100,000 copies of a religious edict urging Iraqis to accept the new government and renounce violence, the military said yesterday.
Imams from around the Salahuddin province have issued a fatwa that rejects jihad (holy war) and supports the US-backed Iraqi government and calls on local residents to co-operate with coalition forces, a statement said.
