BANGKOK: Service on the 13-day-old subway system here was disrupted on Friday because of an apparent safety system malfunction, stranding hundreds of commuters who spilled into the streets in search of taxis and buses.
Commuters at the terminus station of Bang Sue realised something was wrong when no train showed up for more than 30 minutes. When a train did arrive and took in passengers, its doors wouldn't shut and the alarm started ringing, said Rattaphum Meephonlert, a commuter.
