TOKYO: Support for Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi has hit a record low and his ruling party is expected to suffer a serious setback in upper house elections, new polls released yesterday showed.
Although a change of government is not at stake in Sunday's election, analysts say that if the Liberal Democratic Party fails to win a targeted 51 of the 121 seats up for grabs, Koizumi could face pressure to resign.
