YANGON: Myanmar's state-run media reported for the first time that a deadly cyclone slammed the country's southwest coast 10 days earlier, which according to UN estimates killed at least 140 people and left 18,000 homeless.
The storm, the worst to hit the region in four decades, whipped over the Bay of Bengal near Myanmar's border with Bangladesh and struck several coastal townships, according to official media yesterday.
