TAIPEI: Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian sees ties with arch foe China forever deadlocked if Beijing refuses to recognise the island's sovereignty and has vowed to adopt a new constitution in 2008 despite the risk of war.
Just days after Chen narrowly won a second four-year term in an election that faces an opposition challenge, China further isolated the island it claims as a rebel province by winning over one of Taiwan's few diplomatic allies, Dominica.
