BANGKOK: A Thai court yesterday acquitted a high-profile politician's son of murder in the shooting of a policeman during a nightclub brawl a verdict likely to provoke public anger.
The Central Criminal Court ruled that the prosecution had presented insufficient evidence and conflicting witness testimonies against Duangchalerm Yoobamrung, who was charged with murder and conspiring to commit murder. Four other co-defendants, including his elder brother, Wanchalerm, were acquitted of related charges in the 2001 shooting.
