BEIJING: Chinese border police have arrested more than 5,000 stowaways and 400 human traffickers in a five-month crackdown on illegal immigrants, the official China Daily said yesterday.
The revelation came more than a month after 19 people, mostly Chinese migrants, drowned when they were caught by fast-rising tides as they collected shellfish in Morecambe Bay in northwest England.
