COLOMBO: A breakaway Tamil Tiger commander rejected yesterday a fresh amnesty offered by rebel leaders despite a Catholic bishop intervening to bridge the rift that has threatened to undermine Sri Lanka's peace efforts.
V. Muralitharan, who is commanding breakaway Tigers in two eastern districts, will not step down despite the amnesty conveyed through the Bishop of Batticaloa, Kingsley Swamipillai, said the commander's spokesman Varadan.
