MANILA: Philippine forces went on alert yesterday to prevent an outbreak of violence during planned protests by supporters of film star Fernando Poe Jr when the Supreme Court considers a bid to disqualify him as a presidential candidate.
The court is to start hearing arguments today over a petition claiming that the opposition front-runner is not a natural-born Filipino – and therefore not eligible to be president.
