MANILA: A presidential candidate who promised to give every Filipino a million pesos (RM68,000) was detained in a hotel for several hours after issuing several worthless cheques, police said yesterday.
Police and security guards prevented Eddie Gil, a businessman who claims to have US$20bil (RM76bil) in assets, from leaving a Hotel in southern Cagayan de Oro City, where he and 14 supporters had been staying since Tuesday, Inspector Celso Montil said.
