TAIPEI: Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian formally submitted his bid for re-election yesterday, urging voters to support a controversial referendum that bitter rival China has warned could lead to war.
Kuomintang chairman Lien Chan, who is leading in most opinion surveys, also submitted his candidacy for the March 20 polls and called Chen irresponsible for turning relations with China into a re-election ploy.
