TEHERAN: Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has again intervened in the country's political crisis by ordering four ministers to urgently investigate the mass disqualifications of reformist candidates from next month's elections, a top official announced yesterday.
According to state media, parliament speaker Mehdi Karoubi said the deal to resolve the crisis emerged from a meeting late on Monday between himself, President Mohammad Khatami and judiciary chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi-Shahrudi and the all-powerful Khamenei.
