TAIPEI: Taiwan will send delegations to the United States, Europe and Japan to try to assure them a controversial referendum would not change the island's political status quo with China, a group member said yesterday.
Parris Chang, a ruling party legislator who will lead one of the delegations, said they would try to clear doubts about President Chen Shui-bian's plan to hold a referendum calling for China to dismantle nearly 500 missiles aimed at the island.
