YANGON: Myanmar military rulers have freed 16 political prisoners arrested after clashes in May between opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi's supporters and government backers, military and opposition officials said yesterday.
Brig-Gen Than Tun, a senior military intelligence officer, told a news conference 14 remaining political prisoners, including key opposition member Tin Oo, detained in connection with the bloody clashes on May 30, would soon be released.
