BOMBAY: Top Indian movie star Salman Khan was formally charged yesterday with 11 counts related to a 2002 traffic accident that killed a man who was sleeping on a pavement and wounded three others.Â
The charges include causing death by negligence and driving under the influence of alcohol.Â
Salman Khan, a highly popular star who often plays Sylvester Stallone-like roles in Bollywood, India's movie industry, shook his head and said “not guilty'' after the judge read out the charges.Â
He allegedly rammed his car into a group of people sleeping on a Bombay sidewalk last September. He faces up to two years in jail if convicted.Â
The trial is to begin on Oct 21.Â
The other charges against him include rash and negligent driving, endangering human life, driving without a licence, causing damage to property and causing grievous injury. – AP Â
