MUMBAI: Bollywood glamour girl Karisma Kapoor wed long-time childhood friend and businessman Sunjay Kapur at a ceremony yesterday attended by a glittering gathering of film stars and celebrities, witnesses said.

The guest list for the wedding at the Chembur home of the late Raj Kapoor, Karisma's legendary actor-producer-director grandfather, was a veritable who's who of Bollywood, including Govinda –Karisma's favourite star with whom she has numerous hits – Jackie Shroff, Sridevi, Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna.

Former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin and his wife Sangeeta Bijlani also attended the festivities that were supervised by Kareena Kapoor, Karisma's sister and current Bollywood favourite.

The marriage generated much interest in Bollywood circles after Karisma broke off her romantic relationship last year with actor Abhishek Bachchan.

The Bachchans, although distantly related to Karisma's family, were conspicious by their absence from the traditional Sikh wedding.

Karisma's husband Sunjay, who was previously married, is managing director of Sona Koya Steering, part of the Sona group based in New Delhi. His late grandfather Raunaq Singh was the founder of Apollo Tyres, one of India's leading tyre manufacturing companies.

“We have known each other for a long time and we (have been) friends since our childhood. And, I am happy to marry my childhood friend,” Karisma was quoted as saying in an interview with the Times of India. – AFP
