SINGAPORE: The republic’s economic downturn and ageing population have prompted concerns that the number of elderly suicides may rise, reversing a downward trend, experts said on Wednesday.
The elderly suicide rate in the mid-1990s was the highest in the world outside rural China, but a study by academics showed a marked turnaround later.
