PHNOM PENH: Alleged terror mastermind Hambali had planned to use Cambodia as a base for launching attacks across South-East Asia after taking up residence here before his arrest in Thailand, reports said yesterday.
The English-language Cambodia Daily newspaper said the Islamic scholar, blamed for last year's Bali bombings and a string of other attacks, had spent much of his time in Phnom Penh living near a backpacker district.
