MORE people who are so overweight that it becomes a health risk are turning to lap band surgery, to bind their stomachs so that they cannot over-eat. The technique is offered only as a last resort, and lets patients shed as much as 1kg a week.
More than 50 people have had the procedure done at four public hospitals – Alexandra, Changi General, National University Hospital (NUH) and Singapore General Hospital (SGH). Tan Tock Seng Hospital started offering it this month.
