BANGKOK: Two of Thailand’s largest commercial banks, Bangkok Bank Plc and Kasikornbank Plc reported big jumps in their quarterly profits yesterday, thanks to large bond-trading gains.
Flush with cash deposits but struggling to find corporate customers for loans, Thai banks are ploughing funds into the domestic bond market. This paid off handsomely in the first half of the year as Thai interest rates fell to historical lows.
