JAKARTA: An estimated two million Indonesian women are forced to seek unsafe abortions each year to prevent unwanted pregnancies, a news report said yesterday.
According to University of Gajahmade researcher Muhadjir, a member of the university's centre for population studies, most women were forced to seek abortions because of economic hardships or to end unwanted out-of-wedlock pregnancies or those resulting from rape, incest or contraceptive failure.
