SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - The common Korean curse "You should be tattooed!'' derives from the ancient practice of using tattoos to brand thieves and slaves.
But when police launched their nationwide search this month for men with tattoos, they were looking for a new breed of criminals - young men who have their bodies tattooed to evade the country's mandatory military service, crucial to its defense against communist North Korea.
