TOKYO (AP) - A Japanese envoy urged Myanmar's military junta to release pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi and said it would be "difficult'' for Tokyo to increase aid to the impoverished nation if it continues to defy international opinion.
Senior Vice Foreign Minister Tetsuro Yano pressed Gen. Khin Nyunt at a meeting Monday in Yangon to release Suu Kyi "immediately,'' allow her pro-democracy party to operate freely and account for events leading to her detention three weeks ago, the Japanese government said in a statement.
