TOKYO: A long-running dispute over a remote group of islands controlled by Japan threatened to flare up yesterday after Japan's coast guard blocked an attempted landing on one of the islands by a group of Chinese activists.
Coast guard officials said a boat flying a Chinese flag had stopped just inside Japanese waters around 20km north-west of Uotsurishima, one of what Japan calls the Senkaku islands.
