SHANGHAI: China dismissed yesterday US comments that it was planning to change its currency regime, dampening market speculation that it might allow the yuan to rise to ease pressure from its huge balance of payments surplus.
In a sign that traders thought a revaluation could be in the works, forward premiums on the yuan hit record peaks after US Treasury Secretary John Snow said Chinese officials had indicated that Beijing planned a more flexible exchange rate.
