SINGAPORE: The fountain pen used to ink a self-governance agreement with Singapore's former British colonial rulers will be sold as part of a charity auction featuring the personal effects of the island's aging founding father, Sotheby's auction house said yesterday.
The black Waterman pen – priced at between S$8,000 (RM17,600) and S$10,000 (RM22,000) – was used by Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew to sign the Constitution Agreement in London in 1957. The agreement allowed Singapore to govern itself under a new constitution.
