DILI: East Timor President Xanana Gusmao delivered a sobering message to the tiny nation on its first anniversary of independence yesterday, saying people were enjoying freedom but not making good use of democracy.
The former rebel leader reeled off a list of problems plaguing Asia's poorest nation and said politicians were especially to blame, failing to make any laws.
