TOKYO/BANDA ACEH: Aceh separatists and Indonesian officials were locked in tense peace talks in Tokyo yesterday with only hours left to avert war following a tough ultimatum from Jakarta.
Hopes of a deal looked slim as one rebel negotiator in Aceh province dismissed Jakarta's deadline for the separatists to give up their demands for independence by yesterday while a spokesman said the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) was ready for war.
