TOKYO: A last-ditch attempt to prevent war in Indonesia's Aceh province was in jeopardy yesterday after a rebel leader said peace talks with the Indonesian government were unlikely unless five of his detained colleagues were freed.
Mahmood Malik, who the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) consider their prime minister, said after landing here that he would meet mediators before deciding whether to proceed with the talks, but he wanted to see the release of the five rebel officials who were detained in Aceh on Friday.
