BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) - Gunmen fatally shot a police officer in southern Thailand on Friday, in the ninth violent attack against security personnel in the country's Muslim-dominated south in recent months, police said.
Thai officials have rejected suggestions that the recent violence represents a form of Islamic insurgency. Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has blamed it on criminals.
