LUDHIANA (India): Fire raced through a crowded passenger train in northern India yesterday, killing at least 38 people, many of them as they slept, officials said.
“I saw my wife and two children burning to death. The smoke was so intense I could do nothing to save them,” said A.L. Shahji, a soldier in the Indian Army, weeping inconsolably.
