BANGKOK: Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra admitted yesterday the failure of a government campaign to curb deaths during this year's Thai New Year holiday, when more than 550 people were killed in road accidents.
Thaksin blamed lax law enforcement by the police and lack of commitment, citing statistics showing most casualties resulted from drink-driving and failure to use helmets and seat belts.
