EVERY week the SARS outbreak drags on, at least S$23mil (RM48.3mil) is lost by Singapore from tourists spending and cancelled flights alone – and the wider economic losses could spiral to S$509mil (RM1.07bil) for one month.
The alarming potential fallout from severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) was estimated by Standard Chartered Bank economist Joseph Tan, who also found that if the disease remains uncontained for three months, losses could hit a staggering S$4.1bil (RM8.2bil).
