BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) - The Thai government on Tuesday invoked an emergency regulation giving health officials authority to quarantine people suspected of having a deadly new flu-like disease.
The Public Health Ministry announced that it has declared severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, "a severe communicable disease,'' meaning that authorities can detain and quarantine suspected sufferers arriving from at-risk countries for up to 14 days.
