TOKYO: Japan stood firm in the face of pressure to arrest and deport former Peru President Alberto Fujimori yesterday, saying that a notice issued by Interpol was insufficient ground for an arrest.
A Foreign Ministry official said that under domestic laws, a notice from the France-based international police organisation did not compel Japanese police to make an arrest.
