Megawati to sue daily over comparison

JAKARTA: President Megawati Sukarnoputri plans to sue a newspaper that compared her to Sumanto, a man arrested for cannibalising a corpse, news reports said yesterday.

The Rakyat Merdeka, a daily known for its bold headlines, in January suggested Megawati was crueller than Sumanto for raising utility and fuel prices.

“The president said she could not sleep after reading the headline and decided to file a lawsuit against the paper,” sources told The Jakarta Post

Sumanto was arrested in January for allegedly stealing the corpse of an 81-year-old woman and eating slices from her thighs to enhance his magical powers. – dpa
