Newater safe to drink, says minister

THERE are no doubts at all over the safety of Newater and it is unfortunate that the Today newspaper gave the impression that the effects on health over the long-term have not been established, Environment Minister Lim Swee Say said on Friday.

Replying to Tampines GRC MP Irene Ng, he said that over the past two years, more than 22,000 physical, chemical and microbiological tests have been done on it.

The results - verified by an international panel of experts – “clearly established beyond any doubt that Newater is safe” and contains no hormones, viruses, bacteria or cancer-causing agents. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
