BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) - An army officer leading a raid in northern Thailand was killed by suspected drug traffickers, becoming the first army officer slain in the country's ferocious crackdown on illicit drugs, officials said Tuesday.
The three-month campaign, launched Feb. 1 by Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, has claimed the lives of about 500 suspects, a 9-year-old boy and a pregnant woman in drug-related incidents.
